What you wear is what you see
- the changing face of fashion in rock
With the advent of rock n roll, the attires of artists have gone through drastic changes and have played a major role in creating a fashion trend. Fans or even the normal public have gone on to the extent of wearing what their icons put on-stage. Be it the suave look of Elvis or the leather clad metallers like Judas Priest, fashion has played a major role in creating their image which the public has either loved or loathed. Even the females who have glorified rock to greater heights have been very careful in setting their image which has been a trademark of sort for them. Even the punk scenario did not fail to utilize this as an advantage to their presence.
When rock n roll became a household name in the 1950s, Elvis Presley kick started his career by singing rockabilly which is an up tempo mix of country and rhythm and blues, and soon became one of the earliest exponents of rock n roll. Throughout his life Elvis had a distinctive style. His hair was always well groomed and in his later life he grew distinctive wide sideburns. He was also known for his outlandish stage costumes and lastly he became known for his trademark sunglasses. Any or all of these would identify your character as Elvis.

Plague Throat
Shillong boasts of another talented and gruesome band which goes by the name Plague Throat. Yeah, you must be wondering why such a name? But, hey… haven’t we come across band’s names which became huge successes? Formed way back in 2006, the band still has a long way to go. With sure grid and determination I’m sure PT will go a long way!
TNT: When and how did Plague Throat happen?
PlagueThroat: Plague Throat which means spreading message like a plague through the throat, was formed in the early 2006 with Malice on drums, Iai on bass and myself (Nangsan) on guitar. We were actually looking for a vocalist or a guitarist, unfortunately we couldn’t find anyone. So I had to take up the guitar duties as well as vocals... so that is how Plague Throat was started.

Kharshang boy on the road to rock n roll dreams
Today we come face to face with Abhishek Limo Gurung, lead singer for the Kolkata band Cynical Recess, who started off as a small town band’s guitar player. His heroes belong to the eighties, but his band plays a hybrid of the 90s alternative rock, glam and progressive.
TNT: First up, how did you become a Cynical Recess member?
Abhishek Gurung: I got into Cynical Recess through Avinandan (drummer) who was a senior in college. He happened to spot me while I was auditioning for the college band. After that he instantly offered a place for me to sing with his band (Cynical Recess) which had already been formed by then.

Azure Delusion
Very recently Kohima was (is) destroyed! Thanks to Azure Delusion’s new music video ‘Apocalypse’. If you didn’t see the video then don’t worry; go to YouTube /Azure Delusion. And right now get to know the band.
TNT: Why the name? What does it stand for?
AD: Basically the band was deprived of so many false expectations in the past on pursuing our hard dreams for the big blue sky (Azure) …..The road was often clouded with a lot of false hope (Delusion) and wrong expectations. True as the title goes, we aim to bring out the negative realities and misleading truths which are often ignored (termed as ‘The negative flow’ by the band). If you take life as a mirror, it doesn’t always reflect back to you as you’d expect it to …that’s reality.
